Melbourne Blooms

Inspiration behind :

I was in the lovely Museum of NSW when in Australia on the impressionist floor where I am drawn. I turned the corner and found the Dahlias, 1866 by Henri Fantin-Latour, oil on canvas and absolutely could not wait to get home to start my design. I worked from several bouquet photographs I thought were interesting and from several photographs I took at the Botanical Gardens when I was there. It took so many hours and much patience. The unique yellow tulip placed middle right took over 15 hours of layer and design. I tried to capture the light against the soft darker background as the famous French artist saw so clearly.

Description

Elegant in form and matter, I used my own skills of floral arranging to make this piece come alive.  I feel it is one of my best works.  The gradual changes of color and shapes balance and add to its value.  Each flower was carefully placed.  Finishing this proved my own artistic talent to myself and has improved my paintings presently.
